THE SECRET OF DEDICATION: TAKING YOUR CHRISTIANITY TO A DEEPER LEVEL
Service: Sunday Celebration Service
Date: Sunday, 18 October 2026
Topic: The Secret of Dedication
Main Text: Psalm 63:8
Introduction: Moving Beyond Surface Christianity
The Holy Spirit is inviting us to take our Christianity from the surface to a deeper level.
Psalm 63:8 says:
“My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.” — Psalm 63:8 (KJV)
As your soul follows hard after God, you position yourself to experience His presence, guidance, and sustaining power.
The testimony you desire to share may be connected to your dedication to the advancement of God’s Kingdom. Therefore, it is time to serve God wholeheartedly and allow our Christian lives to cost us our time, energy, resources, and comfort.
The devil will attempt to negotiate average Christianity with you. He wants you to serve God only when you feel like it, when circumstances are favourable, or when it is convenient.
However, true dedication means serving God even when your feelings and circumstances do not encourage you to do so.
Our Christian faith is built upon the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we must learn to live sacrificially, with a sincere commitment to God and His Kingdom.
1. Dedication Means Serving God Beyond Your Feelings
Dedication is praising God when it is not convenient.
Bible Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
God expects us to maintain an attitude of thanksgiving, not only when everything is going well but also when we face difficult circumstances.
Dedication means choosing to honour God even when your emotions tell you otherwise.
A. Add Fervency to Your Service
Bible Text: Romans 12:11
“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.” — Romans 12:11 (KJV)
We may praise God, but we must also learn to serve Him fervently. God desires a people who are spiritually committed, passionate, and diligent in their walk with Him.
He is calling us to approach prayer, praise, worship, and service with reverence, godly fear, and sincerity of heart.
The cost of your dedication is reflected in the commitment you bring to your service to God.
B. Dedication Requires Sacrifice
Christianity should not be reduced to a convenient lifestyle in which we serve God only when it suits us.
Taking action contrary to your feelings in praise, prayer, giving, and service is an expression of dedication.
- Praise God even when you feel discouraged.
- Pray fervently even when you feel tired.
- Give willingly and obediently, as God enables you.
- Serve faithfully even when recognition is absent.
- Remain committed even when the results are not immediately visible.
Dedication is not simply doing what feels comfortable. It is choosing to obey and honour God even when obedience requires sacrifice.
C. Be Spiritually Alert and Persistent
Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 16:9
The Christian life involves spiritual opposition, and believers must remain watchful, prayerful, and steadfast in faith.
We must not approach our Christian walk carelessly. Instead, we should pursue God with spiritual seriousness, fervent prayer, consistent worship, and unwavering commitment to His Word.
God desires us to appreciate His works and remain faithful in our service to Him.
Do not allow the presence of challenges to weaken your dedication to God.
2. How to Take Action Contrary to Your Feelings
To live a dedicated Christian life, we must intentionally develop the right mindset, maintain the right spiritual picture, speak in alignment with God’s Word, and take appropriate action.
A. Think Right: Align Your Mind with God’s Word
Bible Texts: Proverbs 23:7; Romans 12:1–2; Philippians 4:6–8; 2 Corinthians 4:18
Your thoughts influence your attitudes, decisions, habits, and actions. If your thinking is not properly aligned with God’s Word, you may become tired, discouraged, and weary in your walk with Him.
To think right means allowing the Bible to shape your thought patterns and influence how you interpret the events of your life.
Instead of allowing fear, anxiety, discouragement, and negative thoughts to dominate your mind, deliberately meditate on God’s Word.
Philippians 4:8 encourages believers to focus on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and worthy of praise.
Practical Ways to Think Right
- Study the Word of God consistently. Let Scripture influence your perspective and decisions.
- Replace negative thoughts with biblical truth. Do not allow fear or discouragement to control your thinking.
- Guard your mind. Be mindful of the information, conversations, and influences you allow into your heart.
- Focus on eternal realities. Do not allow temporary circumstances to determine your understanding of God’s faithfulness.
- Renew your mind daily. Make a deliberate effort to think in ways that reflect God’s Word.
Ephesians 4:27 warns believers not to give the devil a foothold. Guarding our thoughts and attitudes is an important part of maintaining spiritual discipline.
If you want to remain dedicated to God, you must learn to think in alignment with His Word.
B. See Correctly: Develop the Right Spiritual Picture
Bible Text: Jeremiah 1:11–12
What you continually focus on can influence your expectations, decisions, and direction in life.
Jeremiah 1:11–12 describes how God used a vision to communicate His message to Jeremiah and confirmed that He was watching over His Word to fulfil it.
This reminds us of the importance of seeing and understanding life through the perspective God reveals in His Word.
You must learn to see beyond your present challenges and remain attentive to what God has said.
Why Is It Important to See Correctly?
- Your perspective influences your response to challenges.
- Your understanding of God’s Word shapes your expectations.
- Your spiritual focus can strengthen your faith during difficult seasons.
- Your interpretation of circumstances can influence the decisions you make.
If you continually focus on discouraging circumstances, you may lose the courage to move forward. However, when you allow God’s Word to guide your perspective, you can face challenges with faith, wisdom, and perseverance.
What you see through the lens of God’s Word should influence how you live, not merely what you feel.
C. Develop the Right Imagination
Your thoughts help shape the mental pictures you form, and those pictures can influence your expectations and actions.
Consider this progression:
Right Thinking → Right Picture → Right Imagination → Right Destination
When you consistently study God’s Word, you develop a stronger foundation for interpreting life. That understanding shapes your perspective, influences your expectations, and helps guide your actions towards a godly destination.
Your imagination can either encourage constructive action or reinforce fear and discouragement. Therefore, fill your mind with what is true, honourable, and consistent with God’s Word.
The most important thing is not merely to imagine a better future, but to let God’s Word guide your vision and to take responsible steps towards what is right.
D. Speak Right: Let Your Confession Align with God’s Word
Your words matter because they express what you believe, influence your attitude, and affect how you respond to circumstances.
Do not allow your present challenges to become the only things you speak about. Learn to speak words that reflect faith, hope, gratitude, and confidence in God’s promises.
This does not mean denying reality or pretending that difficulties do not exist. Rather, it means refusing to allow difficult circumstances to silence your faith or define your future.
Speak words that encourage you to remain faithful, courageous, and committed to God’s instructions.
Let your confession reflect God’s Word rather than being controlled entirely by your present circumstances.
E. Take the Right Action
Dedication is not complete when it remains only in your thoughts, imagination, or words. It must be demonstrated through practical obedience.
If you believe in prayer, make time to pray.
If you believe in praise, praise God consistently.
If you believe in God’s Word, put it into practice.
If you believe in serving God, commit your time, abilities, and resources to His work as you are able.
If you believe God has called you to a particular responsibility, take the necessary steps to fulfil it faithfully.
Faithful action is the practical expression of genuine dedication.
3. Follow the Pattern of Abraham’s Dedication
If we desire to experience the blessings associated with Abraham, we must pay attention to the faith and obedience demonstrated in his life.
Abraham responded to God’s call with faith and obedience, trusting God even when he did not have every detail of the journey before him.
His life reminds us that faith involves more than believing a promise. It also involves trusting God enough to obey His instructions.
Therefore, let your dedication be demonstrated through obedience, patience, faithfulness, and a willingness to follow God’s direction.
Do not measure your commitment to God only by what you receive. Learn to value your relationship with Him and remain faithful in every season.
4. Understand the Currency of the Kingdom
The Word of God provides spiritual understanding, wisdom, direction, and guidance for living according to God’s will.
What God gives us is not limited to financial resources. He also gives wisdom, abilities, opportunities, strength, knowledge, and the grace to fulfil our responsibilities.
When God gives you the ability to solve a problem, serve others, create value, or carry out an assignment, that ability can become a channel through which provision and opportunities come.
Where God is at work, lives can be transformed, needs can be met, and testimonies can emerge.
Therefore, do not focus only on the money you desire to receive. Also seek the wisdom, character, discipline, and abilities that will help you fulfil God’s purpose.
Your commitment to God should be reflected in both your spiritual life and your daily responsibilities.
5. God Desires Our Commitment
As we remain committed to God, we grow in our relationship with Him and become better positioned to fulfil His purpose.
Serving God should not be treated merely as a transaction in which we give something in exchange for a particular blessing. Our service should flow from love, gratitude, reverence, and obedience.
God equips His people to serve Him and fulfil their assignments. We must therefore remain faithful, trusting Him for the grace and strength to do His will.
Remember that dedication is not measured only by public activities or visible achievements. It is also reflected in private prayer, consistent obedience, integrity, sacrifice, and faithfulness when nobody is watching.
6. The Power of Right Thinking, Right Vision, and Right Confession
Your thinking can influence the direction of your life. The pictures you form in your mind can shape your expectations, and your expectations can influence your decisions and actions.
This is why you must pay attention to what occupies your mind.
The process can be summarised as follows:
Right Thinking → Right Picture → Right Imagination → Right Destination → Right Confession → Right Action
Let the Word of God shape your thoughts. Allow those thoughts to influence your vision. Speak words that reflect faith and truth, and take actions that demonstrate your commitment to God.
Do not wait until your circumstances change before you begin to praise God.
We do not praise God only because things are already alright; we also praise Him because He is worthy of our praise in every season.
Conclusion: Let Your Dedication Speak
The secret of dedication is learning to follow hard after God, even when your feelings, circumstances, or immediate experiences make it difficult.
True dedication requires the right thinking, the right spiritual perspective, the right confession, and the right action.
It means praising God when it is inconvenient, praying fervently, remaining faithful to His Word, and serving Him with sincerity and sacrifice.
Do not allow temporary challenges to determine the depth of your commitment to God.
Let your life reflect your love for Him. Let your thoughts be shaped by His Word. Let your words express faith and gratitude. Let your actions demonstrate obedience.
